His Grace, Bishop Spyridon (Gusakov), previously of Toronto, has been appointed by the Council of Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia to the widowed See of Mid-America.

Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern American and New York, then later Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada served as the Locum Tenens of the diocese following the repose of Archbishop Peter (Loukianoff) on November 8, 2024. Bishop Spyridon is the fifth hierarch to assume the title of “Chicago and Mid-America”, held previously by his ever-memorable predecessors as “Chicago and Detroit” until 2006: Archbishop Gregory (Boriskevich), Archbishop Seraphim (Ivanov), Archbishop Alypy (Gamanovich), and Archbishop Peter (Loukianoff).

Bishop Spyridon was consecreated to the episcopate in February of 2026 at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York.
